According to Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita, Karma yoga is the spiritual practice of "selfless action performed for the benefit of others". Karma yoga is a path to reach moksha (spiritual liberation) through work.

Karma yoga is often referred to as community or donation based yoga. These classes help yoga become accessible to more people by allowing them to pay what is affordable. It ensures that those who are eager to learn more about yoga aren’t hindered by costs. Karma/Community classes are held at different locations around Barbados with various teachers and one of the most well-known karma yoga classes is East Side Yoga.

About East Side Yoga

East Side Yoga offers open-air oceanfront karma yoga classes on the deck at Round house Barbados on the magical East Coast of Barbados.

Classes are held every Sunday morning from 8 am until 9 am. Every community class is suitable for all levels, whether you have a regular practice or are trying yoga for the first time - modifications are available and new yogis are encouraged to come!

The class is made up of a mix of occasionally-practicing yogis, regular yoga students, yoga teachers who want to practice with other teachers, people who just dip in now and again, and they always have a couple of people who have never tried yoga before… that’s just why this space was created and all are welcome. There is no fee to take class, only a donation is asked for the jar which goes to the teacher each week.

After class, students are encouraged to stay for a trail walk through the village, a dip in the rock pools on the beach below or settle in for a yummy farm-to-table brunch.
